1st Ammendment Rights Scenario

This morning while my mom was looking at Yahoo!'s front page, she pointed out this interesting article on a man who was flying an American flag upside down to protest. The police came in on the 4th of July and took the flag, but later returned it to the man who continued to protest over a liquor license for his new restaraunt (that's why the flag was upside down).

Now here's a challenge I'm giving you guys. I'd like to have sort of a mini-debate over this issue and how it relates to the 1st Ammendment Rights. You can post your opinion in a comment, and then if you see another person's comment that you disagree with, you can have a friendly debate with them.
